Now that got you daydreaming.
Where did you imagine? The beach? The mountains? A weekend of shopping? Time at home?
I know I said Take Some Vacation Time but I did not mean that kind of vacation. I meant a vacation you could take everyday! Well in February I have learned to do just that.
Last week I wrote a post, "Exchanging Blinders for Smiles", on how one day's interrupted agenda made me realize how much I had been missing out on. Then I had a profound idea! Why did "vacations" have to be a rare occasion? Why could I not have a mini vacation or mental vacation everyday? Well guess what!? I have decided to do just that-vacation everyday! Let me explain.
I do not know about you but my mind never keeps quiet. The moment I awake, it starts. When I lie down to try and sleep, it is still going and they say that even our dreams is when our mind is at work! Shew. I am tired from just typing that! But from now on I am going to intentionally take a moment to STOP or take "vacation time".
It does not have to be for long periods. It can be for a minute, or two, or five, or ten, or fifteen, whatever. I just decide, I am going to pause right here, right now and enjoy the moment. Smell the roses if you will. When I did, it was amazing the things I started to enjoy.
A clear blue sky with white wispy clouds and a jet flying in the sky..... ( I even stopped in the middle of the road to take this picture!- Not a busy road, of course.)
Time with my babies. ( Baby was sleeping, big boys wanted to go to the park and play. I could have said no but I took 15 minutes for play. And he slept like this until we went to leave. <3)
The towering shape of an old tree.....
(There was a comfortable outdoor chair near this tree where I even managed to sit back and shut my eyes in for a minute! The warmth of the sun on my face felt wonderful!)
And even something as simple as shadows!!!
(Who would have knew this would make a great cover photo for my facebook page? It did!)
And most recently today, while the two little boys napped in the van, me and my oldest (Justin) went through the drive thru and got us an ice cream. We then drove to the grocery store where I needed to get some groceries and just sit in the van, eating ice cream, and talking. One the little boys woke up, we walked in and got our groceries.
Ultimately, what I learned in February is this:
There are a lot of things out there we could enjoy. The question is do we take that time?
How about you friend? Do you need to take a little "vacation time"? What is in your world that you could enjoy if you only took the time? Take 3 minutes everyday to find out, I dare ya!

This is so good. I don't slow down nearly enough and February was definitely a month that could use some slowing down!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anitra! I think we all have problems with slowing down at times! We just need to be reminded occasionally! Hope your March is a little slower! :)
