New Places New Things

As a young girl I remember going to my great grandmother and grandfathers house with my grandmother and my mom. It was a fourth generation get together. I can still see their faces, remember their voices, and remember some of our conversations. But now I have a piece of their past to go forward in my future!

Here is the inspiring piece. This is the bench that was at my great grandfather and grandmothers table. They had a very long table because there were 10 kids!! All of their bottoms have sit on this bench! I don't think you can tell from the picture but the top of it is slick! It wasn't made like that but over all the years it wore that way! My grandparents gave it to me and I told my husband that I needed a new table that I could use it at- that is where the past meets the future!!

So we started looking online at long wooden tables. I wanted one that was 7 feet long and about 3 feet wide and I wanted it to look rustic. Let me just tell ya, $2000 + was not in my budget for a new table!!! So I told my hubby what I wanted and he got to work. He built our new table for about $100! MUCH better that the $2000+!

Isn't it beautiful!! The picture really does not do it justice because it just shines!! The bench you see on this side is one my husband made to resemble the bench of my great grandparents. They look very similar but it does not have all of the "love marks" from being used so much. I plan to put a cushion on the top of this one. But the one of my great grandparents I am not touching! I want it just how it is!!!

Here is a picture of my great grandparents bench beside the new table. I put it up against the wall so the boys would not flip it over and break it. I just love it!!

I have one more thing that is in a new place!

This is my new nightstand! It was originally a chest of drawers that belonged to my great grandparents on the other side of the family. My maternal grandfather was born in 1937 and this was what she used to put his baby clothes in!! It was missing two drawers so my husband cut me a piece of wood to fit the openings and it made two shelves. I love it!!! Again I did not change anything. I want the "love marks" to be there!

Something old and something new sure does look good in their new places!! This is something new I am loving!!!
