Too Much??

I had a problem. Really it was a simple question. The problem is I could not figure out the answer. Actually there were many answers and that is what disturbed me. Shoes? Perhaps. Organizing supplies? Maybe. Clothes? Possibly. Books? Could be. Could it be that I actually had to much of everything? [...]
I recall a time when I could have answered you very quickly and bluntly, no! I wanted more, more and more. It did not matter what it was, I wanted bigger, better and more expensive. But you see I have realized I was wrong. I found out that having stuff did not bring the happiness that the magazines, television ads or songs promised. In fact, it brought about just the opposite- emptiness. Enough, never came. I worked long hours to have the money to buy the stuff. In turn I did not have time for relationships. And once the relationships suffered, they were gone. Then I missed them. I threw away what I did have, for something I didn't have. Only when I got what I was wanting, I didn't want it anymore. I wanted what I once had, back again.

We get fed so many different lies. If we only had this, we would be complete. If we only had that, we could be happy. Friend, I have more stuff than I will ever have need for and I bet if you were honest about it, you do too. Let me give you an example.

I like to go camping. My mom and dad have a pop up camper that we take and they take their hard shell camper. Before we go, I always make lists, lists and more lists to make sure that we do not forget anything important. Clothes, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shoes, bug spray and on and on and on. But the last time we went camping, I lay in bed one night and thought, "We are happy right here right now and all we have is a camper, clothes for a week, food for the week and each other." Why do I feel like I have to have all that other stuff I have at home?" Now I realize that life cannot be a vacation all the time and that is not the point I am trying to get across. The point is this, Where I have shelter, clothing, food and those I love- that is where I am happy!

All the stuff in the world could be at my door step but without love, it is meaningless! So today, I am here to admit I have to much stuff! I have to much of everything!! I am blessed to have way more than I ever need! Thank you God for all the blessings I have in my life! I am a rich woman indeed. Not because of the things I have but because I am loved and have others to love!

  2. We are in the process of teaching our boys the value of stuff. They have to earn the big things, or at least part of them, through work and effort. Which goes hand in hand with what you say here. Things can get in the way, love is far more important to earn then things.

    1. VandyJ I can relate to you in that area. My seven year old just does not understand why we are so strict about him taking care of his things. Recently he destroyed 2 Wii remotes. He had to save up to buy another one. I do not think we will have to stay on him this time! He realizes now how hard it was to earn it! Thanks for stopping by!
