This Gold's Worth More Than Gold!

Kind of a cliche don't you think? How can gold be worth more than gold? Well you see, to me, "something" is not worth a lot unless there is a memory to be found with it. I have a lot of things that I refuse to dispose of. But if it came down to it, I would not be devastated if something happened to certain things. On the other hand, there are a few things in life that I would be in tears over if something happened to them. For one, my pictures. Pictures of my husband and I in our dating years. Pictures of each of the births of our boys. Pictures of them growing up. And then there is my ..........................

gold wedding band and engagement ring! This is something that I would not want anything to happen too!

The current price of gold at the time of this post is $1337.30 per Gold Price Oz.com. I have no idea how much my wedding band or engagement band weighs but it does not make any difference anyway. These rings mean more to me than money could buy! Why? Well there is several reasons.

First, my husband picked these two rings out all by himself. He did not ask me what I wanted (not knocking that avenue, it is just that is not what we did.), he did not tell me he was going looking, nothing! In fact, he surprised me with it when I got back from vacation. (Big smiles here!)

Second, it is linked with what my husband would probably call the most nervous time of his life! I will never forget my proposal! He had my ring in the dash of his pick up truck and it was locked. He had picked me up and I tried to put my wallet and phone in his dash like I usually did. So naturally, I wondered what was up when I could not open it! He was acting weird (what I now know was nerves) and said that he had a surprise in there. By the time we got to the end of the road I lived on, which was like a mile long, he stopped the truck, turned off the engine, unlocked the dash, and handed me the clear ring box. He said, "So I was gonna do something romantic and all but here is as good a place as any. Your road is tearing my truck up and I can't keep coming over here everyday like this, so you wanna get married?" (My road was a very very bumpy dirt road at the time. It was awful on a vehicle!) Of course I said yes, right there in his pickup truck sitting on the side of the road! (We now joke because not even three months after we got married they paved my mom and dad's dirt road! Hahahaha! I told him if he would have only waited a few months more. He he he!) Two months after his proposal to me, he added the wedding band to my finger. We eloped to the local courthouse!( He told me on a Tuesday evening, "I'll be at your house Thursday morning at 10:00 for us to go get married." And my reply was, "You will!?" Needless to say, Thursday morning, I was ready and waiting!)

Third, it is a representation of our commitments to one another. You see our marriage has not been an easy road. Our first seven and a half years were very rough. We were young and had no clue what we were doing to make a relationship work. So we separated for a month in our seventh year of marriage. I lived in an apartment and he stayed at our home. During this time we both realized how much we truly did love each other! Now if only we could learn how to "get along". We seen a marriage counselor for months and slowly, slowly, anger gave way to forgiveness and callas gave way to seeing love again. After one month of separation, I did move back home but we continued to see the counselor. Now after 11 1/2 years of marriage we still go back to the principles we learned in counseling! Marriage is work but it is worth it!

My rings have been there on my finger during the birth of all three of our sons. They have been there during play days at the park. They were there during the tough times of separation. They were there for family vacations and they will be there until the day God takes one of us home.

So you see, this gold ring truly is worth more to me than the price of gold! And to my husband, I love you more than any thing you could ever give me! I pray we will be together as long as gold is around! ;) Thank you God for blessing us with each other!

  3. That must have taken a lot to open up about having had marriage problems. I applaud your honesty and ability to be vulnerable and really share. What a lovely thought, that you really see your wedding rings as such a strong symbol, and not just another piece of jewelry.
My husband picked out my rings on his own too, and he could not have gotten it more right. :)

    1. Aww thank you. :) Honestly now, I have shared with so many people it does not affect me. At first it did I would think well what if they think this? Or what if they say that? But then it hit me. You know, all people have marriage "problems" they may not have gotten as severe as ours but there are always issues that could be worked out. The main thing is, if people are having trouble, get help! I think if this world was a little quicker to admit it had issues instead of trying to cover everything up- that we could address the issues, correct them, and move on. I just hope that our problems we had can minister to someone else and encourage them to keep on keeping on. :) A marriage can be reignited from ashes. I'm proof!! ;) There is just something about that "surprise" of the ring isn't there!? :)

  4. Thank you for leaving such a kind comment on my blog. I am so inspired and encouraged when I read others who are choosing to love their spouses and who are working to keep their vows...as you said, "It takes works." We've had our rough roads too so I although I don't know how you feel or have felt I, certainly can relate to those tough times. I pray for you to have memories forever in your marriage! Great post on "gold."

    1. It is funny Mama Kat because although we had known each other for over 3 years, we dated, were engaged and married in less than 9 months! :) We started "hanging out" in March of 2002, "dating" in August of 2002, Engaged in October 2002 and married in December 2002!! He said we would have dated sooner if he did not think he would have got shot! lol I was 15 and he 25 when my grandfather introduced us. :) He figured he better wait until I turned 18! (That means he was 28!) We joke because the year he graduated high school- I was graduating kindergarden! hahaha. We are perfect for each other though! You would never know we were that far apart in age! :)
